Thanks to both of you for your answers so far... With the Super Fund insurance, I don't know if it's a decreasing one, I should probably look into that more. I also don't know if it's only accidental death cover. I think I might look into both of these factors and then make my decision, but I think it would be wise to drop one and increase the other to the total amount that the two of them currently are. If my super fund insurance policy does cover all causes of death and does not decrease, then I'll probably stick with it. It's through AustralianSuper and is the automatic cover that they give to all of their members, apparently (3 units for each death & TPD) which equals about $231K each. The other is Insurance Line (Tower).

Car Insurance Company Refuses to Insure my Brother!?

So, my brother got into a car accident about 3 years ago. He was driving his car and a motorcyclist ran into him doing around 90 mph, causing the bike to flip and the guy on the bike to dismount and skid across the freeway. The motorcyclist was lucky he didn't get run over or killed. It was deemed by both the insurance companies that it was the motorcyclists fault and when the motorcyclist tried to sue our insurance company, we got a letter from our attorney that the case had been dismissed and no further action was needed. Today, we got a call out of the blue from Mercury saying my brother couldn't be on the insurance anymore because they had settled with the motorcyclist for $100,000 and basically, if we didn't get him off the insurance, my whole family would be removed. We didn't receive any notification that Mercury was planning on paying this guy out or that our rates would be altered. We called the attorney's office but he wasn't in and we explained the situation and the receptionist said they might of just settled anyway without letting us know even though this whole thing wasn't even my brother's fault. My question is, if the accident was the fault of the motorcyclist and when the motorcyclist initially sued and was denied a settlement (there was no mention of a settlement on the attorney's letter; it just said that it was dismissed), how and why would Mercury give this jacka$$ $100,000 and deny my brother coverage? I got a speeding ticket last year around the same time for 15 mph over and just received another (in a different state) for going 18 mph over. Also, I have another ticket from 3 years ago (will be 3 years in a couple weeks), so that shouldn't effect my insurance after that. I called my insurance company and asked them how much my insurance would increase with this new ticket. They said $11 over six months, so that equates to less than $2 a month, which is fine, but I'm just not sure how honest they are being with me. Another person from the insurance company told me my premiums would go up by atleast $10/month without calculating anything, which seems excessive. Currently I am paying $514.03, every WEEK to cover my family of four. Our employers do NOT cover a huge chunk of the costs. I am completely ignorant to this new Obamacare, but I am also starting to learn about it. i did a quote online at progressive just to get an idea of how much the insurance would be for a 2005 yzf r6. i am 18 years old had my motorcycles license for 2 years and have been riding smaller bikes for 2 years now the r6 i am looking at costs 6000 with very low miles and an aftermarket exhaust from a dealer and i will be making a 2200 trade in which will go towards the bike but the rest will have to be financed. i heard the online quote is wrong because i didn't use my social security number and is different from the real quote i should get. also the loan will most likely be under my parents name and if u know of what type of coverage i will need since it is financed ive been doing alot of studying but thought id ask on here. i live in wisconsin which isn't a very populated area which should also make a difference if u know anything or need to know anymore just ask thanks alot

Auto insurance cancelled today, can I go to new company?

I just got a new car a few months ago and was paying $325 a MONTH for my insurance. Way too expensive. I want to cancel and go to another company (nationwide or all-state) where I was quoted $195 a month. I dont have the money to pay the current insurance $325 for the month, then cancel it (which adds another $90 or so for cancellation fee), and THEN open a new policy with another company for $195. Thats $615 just to switch insurance companies! So, I let my current insurance lapse and it was cancelled as of last night for non-payment. Now, can I open up the new insurance with another company today, then pay off the old insurance in a couple weeks?
